Super-sub Jemal Johnson hit his second late winner in four days as MK Dons ended Darlington's unbeaten home record and maintained their six-point lead in League 2. Fresh from his stoppage time heroics at Notts County on Boxing Day, the former Quakers striker fired his fifth of the season six minutes from time, as Paul Ince's team struck another huge blow in the promotion race. Having visited both Hereford and Peterborough already this season, it's the third time the Dons have travelled to a major rival at the top of the table - and the third time they've come away with maximum points. And it's the second time they've ended a Darlington unbeaten run, after inflicting the Quakers' first defeat of the season at stadiummk in September. Given the absence of first team regulars Sean O'Hanlon and Kevin Gallen, it was a mightily impressive result from the men from stadiummk, and a stark warning to the rest of the division that they are still the team to beat. With a heavy downpour immediately preceding the kick-off, flowing football was never going to be the order of the day and when Darlington winger Rob Purdie was booked for a lunge on Luke Howell inside 60 seconds, it was obvious this would not be one for the purists. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3511131,00.jpg Dean Lewington keeps the pressure on Pawel Abbott. The Dons did attempt to pass the ball however and when Keith Andrews and Alan Navarro dictated play across the field they looked more than capable of making light of the sodden surface. But as the pitch cut up horribly, both midfielders would have to shelve their unquestionable talent and call on their combative qualities. Julian Joachim blasted over for the home side on the quarter-hour and when Pawel Abbott for once escaped the clutches of the magnificent Danny Swailes, he headed a Clark Keltie corner over the bar. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3511130,00.jpg Drewe Broughton up against Ian Miller in the early downpour. But it was a first half short on chances, not dissimilar to the reverse fixture in Milton Keynes in September, and defenders were certainly on top as the game turned scrappy. But the home side finally inflicted a period of continuous pressure just after half-time as the Dons battled like mad to stay in the game. It started when Willy Gueret made his only piece of misjudgement in the game, coming to collect and getting underneath his opposite number David Stockdale's ball into the area in a moment that suddenly invigorated the home support. But the French 'keeper redeemed himself with a brilliant save moments later when he blocked Tommy Wright from point blank range after Lee Ridley's throw had drifted into the Dons box. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3511125,00.jpg Alan Navarro nudges the ball past Julian Joachim. Keltie made a timely interception on the edge of his own box to prevent Colin Cameron latching on to a Mark Wright cross on the hour mark - a half chance perhaps, but nothing compared to what Abbott contrived to miss minutes later. Neil Austin's ball into the box from the right was only cleared as far as Purdie, and Gueret had to make a flying save to keep out the former Hereford man's textbook volley. The loose ball ran straight to Abbott, who somehow managed to divert the ball wide with the goal gaping. With the Quakers upping the ante and the Dons under as much pressure as they've been put under all season, Ince dipped into his book of management and pulled out a maverick play nobody had thought of. With Drewe Broughton having worked tirelessly as the lone striker, he was replaced on 64 minutes by, of all people, Jude Stirling. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3510756,00.jpg Danny Swailes gets the better of Pawel Abbott. Utility player he may be, but the sight of the former Peterborough man leading the Dons line, partnered by the impish Johnson, was not one many Dons fans would have expected on their way up the M1. It was to prove a master stroke from the Dons boss and it could have happened earlier than it did. Racing after a Dean Lewington clearance down the left touchline, Stirling fought his way past Miller into the Quakers penalty area but having denied the invitation to shoot, his cross for Wright was intercepted by Stockdale. Ince looked gutted but he needn't have been, as Stirling set off on another tireless run to set up the winner. Chasing away down the right this time as red shirts piled forward, Stirling ran straight at full-back Ridley towards the box before rolling the ball across to Johnson. Wright was screaming for the ball to his left but when Johnson presented him with it, Wright simply rolled it back and Johnson fired home at the near post to completely wrong-foot Stockdale. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3511139,00.jpg Johnson fires in the Dons' winner. It was heads in hands for the home players, who knew their proud unbeaten run at the Darlington Arena was over as the Dons fans went berserk behind the goal. It's a result that puts 11 points between the two sides and, though Darlington have two games in hand, the Quakers are now well back on Paul Ince's men at the halfway point in the season. Rotherham vs MK Dons http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/na...0/ClubLogo.gif 0 - 1 http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/na...0/ClubLogo.gif Цитат:
Wright drilled home substitute Jemal Johnson's pass eight minutes from time to chalk up a 10th away win of the season for a relentless Dons side missing several key personnel. Robbed of the influence of captain Keith Andrews to a thigh strain and with Jude Stirling playing as a makeshift striker in the absence of both Kevin Gallen and Aaron Wilbraham, Paul Ince's team dug deep yet again to keep their phenomenal run on the road going. The win also wiped away the memory of the club's last visit to Rotherham when they were relegated from League 1 two seasons ago. It was the masterful way the Dons defended that caught the eye most of all, shutting out a Rotherham attack with the second best home scoring record in League 2. Led by magnificent captain Danny Swailes, the Dons simply refused to beaten by a side looking more like heavyweight contender the longer the season goes on. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3518425,00.jpg Jude Stirling battles brilliantly alone up front against the Millers. Even when the Millers were able to find a way through the Dons defence, their finished was not clinical enough - defender Graham Coughlan heading criminally wide from two yards out in the second half. But the cut-throat Dons showed Mark Robins' team how it's done when Wright buried his eighth goal of the season after a classic counter attack. Despite having played at least a game more than everyone in the top seven, it leaves the Dons with a stranglehold over the rest of the League 2 after 25 games. With Andrews part of the travelling party but out of the side, Jordan Hadfield was handed a first start in a Dons shirt, joining Alan Navarro and Colin Cameron in a three-man midfield. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3518424,00.jpg Graham Coughlan keeps the ball away from Colin Cameron. The Macclesfield loanee acquitted himself well in the middle of the park, tackling hard and firing Cameron's lay-off just wide from the edge of the box on 12 minutes. But providing stiff opposition in the midfield battle was former Don Pablo Mills. The big midfielder was an impressive force in the Millers engine room, not only thumping into tackles but putting the home side on the front foot frequently. Having already miscued a header when well placed in the middle, Derek Holmes was again guilty of wasting good delivery from the Millers - heading well wide from Ian Ross's cross after a neat move down the right. The battle raged on in midfield with Mills continuing to frustrate the Dons trio with his uncanny knack of keeping possession when the ball looks lost. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3518125,00.jpg Lloyd Dyer tries to make a breakthrough for the Dons. Dons 'keeper Willy Gueret held on to a well-struck volley from Ross as the visitors fought off a Rotherham onslaught, but Holmes again wasted a headed chance when Marc Joseph crossed from the right. Having fought back late in the first half to sustain a bit of pressure of their own, the Dons got themselves firmly on the front foot in the second. Had they not been missing the height of the likes of Sean O'Hanlon, Wilbraham and Andrews, the Dons might have made more of the string of corners they won in the second period with the wind at their backs. But on 64 minutes, Coughlan missed the chance of the game, somehow diverting the ball wide after Holmes had flicked Stephen Brogan's free-kick past Gueret. Rotherham regained the momentum and continued to load the ball towards the Dons box, Swailes and Diallo constantly heading danger away as red shirts poured forward. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3518426,00.jpg Mark Wright looks for a way round Stephen Brogan. It was not a style of play the Dons had expected from their hosts and when the again-impressive Luke Howell was replaced by O'Hanlon with 17 minutes to go, it was with the intention combating that threat. But as Rotherham started to turn the screw, they threw one too many bodies forward and Johnson, on for Cameron to join Stirling in attack took full advantage. A Rotherham corner was cleared to the American-born striker halfway inside his own half, and as Johnson turned, he had open space in front of him. Two red shirts stood between him and goal, soon becoming one as Johnson raided into the Millers half with Wright screaming in support to his right. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3518423,00.jpg Alan Navarro fought tirelessly in the Dons midfield. Johnson saw him, squared across the box and Wright drilled a left-footed shot through Andy Warrington. It's the third away game in a row that has seen the Dons hit a late winner, a bolt from the blue some might say but nobody was surprised when it happened. Another trip to another promotion rival and another three points in the bag. Rotherham United: Warrington, Coughlan, Sharps, Joseph, Brogan, Hudson, Ross (Taylor 61), Danny Harrison, Mills, Derek Holmes (Yates 87), O'Grady. Subs Not Used: Oxley, Tonge, Peter Holmes. Booked: Sharps. MK Dons: Gueret, Lewington, Diallo, Howell (O'Hanlon 73), Swailes, Stirling (Baldock 88), Cameron (Johnson 66), Dyer, Wright, Navarro, Hadfield. Subs Not Used: Broughton, Abbey. Milton Keynes Dons FC can confirm that striker Leon Knight has agreed a transfer to Wycombe Wanderers for an undisclosed fee. Leon has signed an 18-month deal with the Adams Park outfit and joins Paul Lambert's men after a year in Milton Keynes. The former Chelsea and Swansea City hitman made 36 appearances for the club in his time here, scoring six goals in the process, but has not featured since the win over Dagenham & Redbridge on December 4. He joins the Chairboys as they look to improve on their current play-off position and could make his debut when Lambert's side travel to Mansfield on Tuesday. Everyone at MK Dons would like to thank Leon for his contribution to the club in the time he has been here and wish him the very best of luck with his future. Andrews move is news to us - Mathias
http://editorial.jpress.co.uk/web/Up...20v%20Bury.jpg Keith Andrews has been linked with move away from stadium:mk. By James Chard MK Dons assistant boss Ray Mathias has dismissed reports that captain Keith Andrews is on his way to Leicester City in a £1.5m move. National newspaper reports today suggested the Dons skipper was on his way to the Walkers Stadium. But Paul Ince's right hand man told the Citizen: "We know nothing about it. Where these stories come from you never know. "Keith has obviously been scoring a lot for us this season and like a lot of players who are doing well for us they're going to be linked elsewhere. "But our main concern is ourselves and our own playing squad." Andrews missed out on Saturday's win at Rotherham with a slight thigh strain but Mathias said he could feature against Gillingam in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday night. Sean O'Hanlon could be in line for a return to the side after taking part in training, but Kevin Gallen and Aaron Wilbraham are both set to miss out. Lloyd Dyer is a slight doubt after taking a knock to his achilles tendon. Last Updated: 07 January 2008 5:13 PM След Найти сега пък и Андрюс... |
Dobson set to sign for Dons
http://editorial.jpress.co.uk/web/Up...n_celeb220.jpg Craig Dobson Stevenage winger Craig Dobson is expected to sign for MK Dons today in a five figure fee. The pacey winger started his career at Crystal Palace and has had spells at Cheltenham and Barnet before finding his way to the Conference side, and is expected to move before the end of the transfer deadline tonight. The deal will also include future payments if Dons are promoted and a significant share of any future transfer fees. Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace said: "Dobbo is out of contract in a few months and if he wants to go, we won't stand in his way. "If he wants to stay that is fine too, but he is on the transfer list, MK Dons have met our valuation and made him an attractive offer to move today." Milton Keynes Dons have tonight completed the signing of winger Craig Dobson from non-league Stevenage Borough for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old, who can also operate as a central striker, becomes Dons manager Paul Ince's first permanent capture of the January transfer window just hours before Thursday's midnight deadline. The former Crystal Palace trainee has attracted much attention this season after the pacy winger scored 10 goals in 27 appearances in the Blue Square Premier. Dobson joined Stevenage at the beginning of the 2006/07 season after short spells with both Cheltenham and Barnet, and went on to score 15 goals in 65 appearances for Peter Taylor's men. On joining the Club, Craig said: "It's a great opportunity for me to play league football for a team that is already doing well, and a club that's moving in the right direction. "Obviously Paul Ince was a major factor in me signing and I look forward to him helping me progress as a player. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3550806,00.jpg Craig Dobson completed his move to MK Dons on Thursday. "I'm just looking forward to fitting in and helping the team get to where they want to be." Craig joins Jordan Hadfield, John Miles and Matt Carbon as Ince's January acquisitions and could be among the party travelling to Bury for Saturday's League 2 fixture. Потвърдено! :) Milton Keynes Dons have signed defender Carl Regan from Macclesfield Town for an undisclosed fee. The Club just managed to beat Thursday's transfer deadline to secure the services of the Liverpool-born right back, with the deal going through just minutes before midnight. Regan, 27, has signed a one-and-a-half year deal at stadiummk and becomes the Dons' second deadline-day capture following the purchase of winger Craig Dobson from Stevenage. Having come through the ranks at Everton, Carl arrives in Milton Keynes with a wealth of experience gathered from close to 200 league appearances in his career. Regan will again join forces with manager Paul Ince, whom he played under when Ince took over in Regan's first season at Moss Rose. He joined the Silkmen in June 2006 after spells with Barnsley, Hull City and Chester. On completing his transfer, Regan told mkdons.com: "I'm absolutely made up to be here, I've been following MK Dons all season with Paul Ince being my old manager and they've been going from strength to strength. "I got the phone call at about half-past-seven to get down here and sign so I got in the car and got here as quick as I could. "The Chairman's told me it's the closest to deadline the Club have signed someone so it's a little bit of history but I'm just ecstatic to be here." Regan was one of Macclesfield's stand-out performers in their 1-1 draw with the Dons at stadiummk on Tuesday night, playing his part in a resolute Silkmen rearguard late in the game. He could make his debut for the Dons when Ince's team travel to Bury on Saturday. +1... Дано пък защитата ни се подсили... ;) |
BURY V MK DONS PREVIEW Fri 01 Feb 2008 http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3551445,00.jpg http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3551446,00.jpg TEAM NEWS Dons manager Paul Ince could hand debuts to winger Craig Dobson and full-back Carl Regan after their respective moves from Stevenage and Macclesfield on transfer deadline day. Defender Sean O'Hanlon picked up his fifth caution of the season against Macclesfield on Tuesday night but will still be available as his one-match ban doesn't take effect until next week. Colin Cameron suffered no recurrance of his ankle injury after coming off the bench against the Silkmen and should be fit for selection. Bury caretaker manager Chris Brass could throw teenage midfielder Elliott Bennett straight into the action after signing the Wolves' youngster on a month's loan. Striker Andy Mangan should remain on the bench while defender Paul Morgan could return to the squad following a thigh strain. FORM The Dons come into the game having brought a run of three successive defeats to an end with Tuesday night's draw against Macclesfield. The League 2 leaders suffered defeats against Rochdale, Wrexham and Barnet prior to that but did win eight of the previous nine coming into the New Year. With 10 wins and 22 goals from 14 games on the road this season, the Dons' record on the road remains the best in the division but will need to get back to winning ways quickly if they are to avoid losing top spot. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3551449,00.jpg Bury have yet to win a league game under caretaker boss Chris Brass. The Shakers are on a wretched run of 10 league games without a win and have dropped to 20th in the table, though they do have two games in hand. Their impressive run to round four of the FA Cup was ended last Saturday at Southampton leaving Bury with just the league campaign to focus on and a win on Saturday would come in handy to avoid getting dragged closer to the drop zone. Striker Andy Bishop has been their main threat this season with 13 goals to his name already, including two against the Dons on the opening day. The Shakers could climb to 18th with a win but could even be dragged into the bottom two if they're beaten. Mark Wright scored the first hat-trick of his career as MK Dons made a devastating return to form at Bury. Paul Ince's league leaders ended their run of four games without a win as Wright's treble plus goals from Lloyd Dyer and substitute Kevin Gallen shook the Shakers to their very core. It was an emphatic response from Ince's troops, whose authority as League 2's team to beat has been questioned in recent weeks following three defeats and a draw. But as they have done on so many occasions this season, the Dons came up with the goods on the road to extend their lead to eight points at the division's summit. A consolation goal from Bury substitute Glynn Hurst may have annoyed Ince with a clean sheet just a minute away, but the Dons boss must surely be delighted with the way his team went about dismantling their opponents. While Wright was deadly in front of goal, making a mockery of the team's apparent need of an outright finisher by taking his season's tally to 11, Aaron Wilbraham was the thorn in the side Bury just couldn't remove. The Dons frontman gave a masterclass in the lone-striker role - Wright and Dyer's names on the scoresheet as supporting strikers providing testament to the big man's brilliance in attack. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3552324,00.jpg Mark Wright rifles in the first of his three against Bury. In truth, Bury played a big part in their own downfall, Brian Barry-Murphy the first major culprit. Under no pressure whatsoever, the Shakers midfielder passed straight to Wright 30 yards from his own goal and the Dons man made no mistake, striding forward before rifling a low shot in off Jim Provett's right-hand post on 10 minutes. The perfect start for the visitors and a brief goalmouth scramble involving 'keeper Willy Gueret, Danny Swailes and Andy Bishop aside, it was one-way traffic towards the home side's goal. The two Dons wingers were causing most of the problems, having switched flanks for the afternoon to see Wright operating on the left and Dyer on the right, and the two combined to double the lead on 22 minutes as Bury hesitated in defence again. Steve Haslam seemed unsure what to do with Wilbraham's ball bouncing high in the inside left channel, but Wright made his mind up for him. Shrugging his marker off the ball, the rampant Dons winger drove unopposed into the box before squaring for Dyer to tap in from close range. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3552322,00.jpg Lloyd Dyer celebrates his goal with Aaron Wilbraham. Bury were caught in the eye of the storm and Dyer's delightful one-two with Keith Andrews tore them apart down the right again. The cross broke the way of Jordan Hadfield and Bury had Provett to thank for a fantastic close-range save that stopped him making it three. The 281 travelling Dons fans didn't have to wait long though as Bury crumbled under more Dons pressure on 36 minutes. While Wright's finish was classy, he owed so much to a sublime lay-off from Wilbraham, who cushioned Dyer's far post cross delightfully into the winger's path allowing him to turn and finish clinically from eight yards. Bury were left dazed and were denied anything to take into the break when Ben Futcher's effort from a David Buchanan corner was cleared off the line by Sean O'Hanlon. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3552019,00.jpg Mark Wright strikes his second and the Dons' third past Jim Provett. The onslaught continued after the break, Provett again called into action to tip away a fierce drive from Dyer who was giving Colin Woodthorpe a torrid time. Gueret acrobatically tipped a fierce drive from Hurst over the bar but any chance of a spell of Shakers pressure was relieved by Wilbraham, who won a deserved free-kick when Futcher cut him down in full flight. Futcher was booked but the punishment was doubled, Navarro clipping the resulting free-kick into the box, Wilbraham pulling it back across goal and Wright stabbing home in the centre to secure the matchball. Ineffective to that point, Bishop's afternoon was summed up on 78 minutes, beating Alan Navarro to a long ball over the top but slamming his shot off the crossbar with just Gueret to beat. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3552323,00.jpg Lloyd Dyer teases the Bury defence in another virtuoso display. The Dons fans, by this time performing a conga around the away end, called for a fifth and Gallen provided it, feeding the ball right before bursting into the middle to sidefoot home Navarro's inviting cross. If there was a Bury player that deserved a consolation it was probably Hurst, who had constantly run the channels since coming on as a half-time substitute. He got it when he outpaced Swailes to a ball over the top and jabbed the ball past Gueret but he barely even bothered to celebrate. Wright ensured possession of the matchball from the referee on the way off the pitch, a nice trophy for a nice afternoon's work. Defeats for Darlington and Rotherham ensure the Dons' position is strengthened with the Millers to come to stadiummk next Saturday. The Dons point machine may just be clicking into gear again. MK DONS V ROTHERHAM PREVIEW Fri 08 Feb 2008 http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3558176,00.jpg http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3558175,00.jpg TEAM NEWS Dons will be without suspended defender Sean O'Hanlon, who has now collected five bookings for the season and must serve a one-match ban. Manager Paul Ince has the option of a straight swap with Matt Carbon coming into central defence, or Drissa Diallo moving in from right-back, which would leave the full-back berth open to Jude Stirling, Luke Howell or new signing Carl Regan. Long-term absentees Paul Mitchell and Gareth Edds aside, Ince has a clean bill of health ahead of the game. Rotherham could recall leading scorer Derek Holmes, who started on the bench in last week's defeat to Hereford. Manager Mark Robins also has on-loan Chelsea defender Adrian Pettigrew at his disposal while former Don Pablo Mills should start against his former club. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3558177,00.jpg Former Don Pablo Milles has been in excellent form in the Millers midfield. FORM Dons come into the game having secured their first win in five with a 5-1 hammering of Bury last week. Mark Wright's hat-trick and goals from Lloyd Dyer and Kevin Gallen secured victory for the league leaders at Gigg Lane after a draw and three defeats. While the Dons away record remains the envy of most teams in the Football League, they've not won at home since New Year's Day - a run that has included defeats to Barnet and Rochdale and a draw with Macclesfield. Eight points clear at the top, the Dons could put 11 between themselves and Rotherham with a win. The Millers approach Saturday in a similar blip to the one the Dons suffered recently. Robins' side have lost both their last two games against Peterborough and Hereford respectively but have hung on to their place in the top three. Just two defeats on the road this season show they can be a tough side to break down and six wins from their last eight away from Millmoor suggest they are unlikely to settle for a point. The Millers have a game in hand on the Dons already but can reduce the gap on the leaders to five points with a win on Saturday. LAST TIME OUT Rotherham 0 MK Dons 1 Saturday 5 January 2008 The Dons hit Rotherham with a classic late sucker punch at Millmoor last month as Mark Wright's goal secured all the points late on. The Millers had more than their fair share of an absorbing, if not pretty, contest on a difficult pitch but couldn't make the most of their chances. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3518426,00.jpg Mark Wright in action for the Dons at Millmoor in January. But with time running out and conditions getting worse, Wright scored from a Jemal Johnson-led breakaway to take the Dons 11 points clear at the top of the table. SHREWSBURY V MK DONS PREVIEW Tue 12 Feb 2008 http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3562999,00.jpg http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3562905,00.jpg TEAM NEWS Dons manager Paul Ince will have Sean O'Hanlon available again after the defender served a one-match suspension for picking up five yellow cards. Aaron Wilbraham misses the trip to New Meadow with a medial knee ligament strain while Colin Cameron is also likely to miss out. Paul Mitchell and Gareth Edds remain longer term absentees for the league leaders. Shrewsbury will hand late fitness tests to both Kevin McIntyre and Colin Murdock, who both sustained knocks against Brentford on Saturday but are expected to be passed fit. Striker Andy Cooke and defender Darren Moss are expected to be out for another week with leg and knee problems respectively while striker Dave Hibbert should start in his final game before a one-match ban. FORM Dons head for New Meadow unbeaten in their last three after losing three on the bounce. The league-leaders shared the points with third-placed Rotherham on Saturday at stadiummk a week after beating Bury 5-1 in their last away outing. Paul Ince's side remain the standout performers away from home in League 2 this season with 11 wins from 15 games. Only two sides have scored more than their 27 goals on their travels and only one team, Darlington, have conceded fewer. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3562904,00.jpg Shrewsbury players will be hoping to celebrate against the Dons tonight. Shrewsbury currently sit 13th in the table having played the same number of games as the Dons, 31. Gary Peters' men have been rather erratic this season and have only won once in their last nine. A late goal from James Constable salvaged a point at Brentford on Saturday but they need to start picking up wins if they want to sneak into the play-offs - a happy hunting ground for them last season against the Dons. They could climb to 11th with a win, or even drop to 15th with a defeat. MK Dons watched a 3-0 lead slip through their fingers as Shrewsbury staged a remarkable comeback at New Meadow. James Constable's second-half double on his full Shrews debut left the League 2 leaders wondering how they never left Shropshire with three points from an incredible game. The Dons looked home and hosed five minutes before half-time after a devastating, eight-minute spell where they completely outclassed Shrewsbury in every department. Two goals for Mark Wright and a third in as many games from Kevin Gallen left the home fans booing at the ease with which the Town defences were being breached. But Kelvin Langmead produced what proved to be a crucial lifeline just before half-time, heading in to give the home side hope of an unlikely comeback. But come back they did as the Dons failed to put Shrewsbury to bed - a couple of excellent finishes from Constable leaving Dons boss Paul Ince infuriated at the final whistle. It just never looked likely in the first half as the Dons, just as they did against Rotherham on Saturday, produced football that was a joy to behold. Jemal Johnson, in to partner Gallen in attack, was unmanageable - first testing Glynn Garner with a volley from Wright's cross, then racing clear to force the Shrews 'keeper into another save shortly afterwards. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3563544,00.jpg Mark Wright celebrates scoring the opening goal. The pressure didn't ease up as the visitors poured forward - Lewington's volley being spilled by Garner before a header from Danny Swailes flew just over the bar. The goal was coming, the whole ground knew it, and Wright provided it on 32 minutes - chesting down a poor clearance from a Lewington corner and drilling the ball through a crowd of bodies and into the bottom corner. Barely had Shrewsbury pulled themselves together when they fell two behind. Johnson seemed crowded out after controlling Lewington's pass on the edge of the area, but somehow producing a shot with zero backlift. His effort rebounded off the bar to the grateful Gallen, who gratefully gobbled up the rebound from 10 yards out. It was one-way traffic, though Shrewsbury were putting up little resistance and Johnson was only to happy to take advantage. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3563546,00.jpg Wright finishes the Dons' third and his 13th of the season. Cutting in unchallenged from the right, Johnson drove in a fierce left-foot shot from 30 yards that seemed to deceive Garner in the air. It didn't deceive Wright though, who strolled into the box, picked up Garner's parry and put away his 13th goal of the season. The away fans were going ballistic, the home fans equally so but for completely different reasons, and it simply looked a matter of how many the Dons would get. But getting to half-time at 3-0 was a must and they couldn't manage it. On as a substitute for the injured Ben Davies minutes before, Chris Humphrey swung over a corner from the right and Langmead climbed above Drissa Diallo to thump in a header at the far post. In fairness, such was the Dons' dominance, nobody really expected Shrewsbury to get two more without the Dons managing another, but Town did at least look more like making a game of it. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3563545,00.jpg Mark Wright celebrates his second goal of the night. Marc Pugh was starting to look a handful down their left-hand side and when afforded the space, tested Sean O'Hanlon and Danny Swailes in the centre with some probing crosses. Having been unplayable in the first half, Johnson's edge was blunted by referee Ian Williamson with a final warning with the Dons striker having already been booked. Langmead wasted a good opportunity as Pugh's deflected free-kick broke his way but the free-flowing Dons of the first half did not re-form for longer than fleeting glimpses. The tide was turning and Constable turned up the pressure with 20 minutes to play. Humphrey was again the provider, though there was a hint of handball about the way he lost Dean Lewington on the right flank, drilling the ball across goal for Constable to sweep in from four yards. Far from caving in, the Dons responded well to the goal, substitute Jude Stirling drawing a fine save from Garner on 78 minutes. http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3563382,00.jpg Sean O'Hanlon battles in the Dons defence. Attack was proving the best form of defence but with three minutes to go, things started to go against Ince's side. First Andrews was incredibly booked for a dive after ghosting past Langmead en route to goal then Mr Williamson overruled his assistant after a Kevin Gallen effort had been brilliantly tipped round the post by Garner. Paul Ince was furious at the decision, but not nearly as angry as he was a minute later. Stirling did superbly to escape the clutches of Marc Tierney on halfway before charging into the Shrews area and rolling across the six-yard box for Gallen. When the former QPR striker somehow missed his kick, the resulting punishment seemed inevitable. Pugh teased a ball into the box, Asa Hall won the knockdown and Constable volleyed in crisply to complete a remarkable comeback. Shrewsbury: Garner, Herd, Langmead, Murdock, Tierney, Davies (Humphrey 38), Hall, McIntyre, Pugh (Hunt 90), Hibbert (Madjo 75), Constable. Subs Not Used: Bevan, Meredith. Booked: Murdock. Goals: Langmead 44, Constable 70, 90. MK Dons: Gueret, Diallo, O'Hanlon, Swailes, Lewington, Dyer (Stirling 71), Andrews, Navarro, Wright, Gallen (Baldock 90), Johnson (Hadfield 81). Subs Not Used: Regan, Abbey. Booked: Johnson, O'Hanlon, Andrews. Goals: Wright 32, Gallen 34, Wright 40. ;) |
MK Dons have today signed midfielder Felix Bastians on a one-month loan from Nottingham Forest. Dons manager Paul Ince has moved to bring in the German Under 19 international with options of the left-hand side thin on the ground. Bastians has already been on loan with both Chesterfield and Notts County this season, as he looks to gain first team experience away from the City Ground. The 19-year-old winger has already found the scoring touch at stadiummk this term, having scored Chesterfield's equaliser against the Dons in the Spirerites 2-1 win here in November. After coming up through the youth ranks at Forest, Felix has had other load spells with Northwich Victoria, Halifax Town and Gillingham since signing pro in 2005. Bastians, who has been allocated the number nine shirt, is likely to be involved in the Dons squad to face Wrexham at stadiummk on Saturday, with Lloyd Dyer a doubt having contracted tonsillitis. Добре дошъл в клуба. ;) |
