KELLY ON TARGET BUT FRENCH TAKE SPOILS
Thu 01 Nov 2007

http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3441722,00.jpg

Dons youngster Liam Kelly scored his first goal for Scotland Under 18s in their 3-1 defeat to France in Limoges.

Scholar Kelly was brought into midfield off the bench with 12 minutes to go on Wednesday night and scored late-on with a clinical close-range volley after Andrew Milne had headed back a left-wing corner.

The goal proved no more than a consolation for the young Scotland side, but was a huge shot in the arm for Kelly, 17, who also made a substitute appearance in Monday's 2-1 defeat to Turkey.

Employed in a slightly more advanced midfield role, Kelly again impressed and looks set to start Saturday's final game of the tour against the USA.

He told mkdons.com : "I thought I did really well when I came on, I got a some good passes off and put my tackles in so I was really pleased.

"The goal was a bit instinctive, once Andrew got his head to the ball it came at me quite quickly so I just had to hit it.

"I'm looking forward to the game on Saturday. We saw the USA play against France and they were a good side so we'll have to play well to get a result.

"When you lose the ball against these teams it can be a long time before you see it again. The standard's very high and I'm really enjoying the week."

:bgflag:

DYER UP FOR OCTOBER AWARD
Fri 02 Nov 2007

http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3453573,00.jpg

Dons winger Lloyd Dyer has been nominated for the October Powerade Player of the Month award in League Two.

The Birmingham-born speedster has been in wonderful form for Paul Ince's team of late, playing an important role in their recent run of nine consecutive wins.

With his fantastic combination of blistering pace and dangerous delivery, Lloyd has proved a handful for many a full-back so far this term and has weighed in with some important goals of his own.

After firing the Dons to the top of the table with a wonder strike at Morecambe at the end of September, Dyer's run of form continued into October with goals against Mansfield and Lincoln coupled with some devastating displays.

The 25-year-old former West Brom man is named alongside Chester's Richie Partridge, Barnet striker Liam Hatch and Chesterfield hitman Adam Rooney in the shortlist.

Should Lloyd take home the prize, it will complete an MK Dons League Two double for October, following Paul Ince winning the Manager of the Month award on Thursday.

The winner will be announced on Monday 5 November on The Big League Weekend 2 on Sky Sports One.

:diablo:

TEAM NEWS
Dons will be without suspended midfielder Alan Navarro, who collected a fifth booking of the season in last week's defeat to Stockport County. His one-match ban could open the door for either Colin Cameron or Gareth Edds to stake their claim for a first-team berth.

Jude Stirling has been ruled out with a shoulder injury while Luke Howell is still recovering from a groin problem.

Wycombe are likely to stick with first-choice 'keeper Frank Fielding despite signing Rab Douglas from Leicester this week. Striker David McCracken is out through suspension and midfielder Mike Williamson is out until the new year with knee trouble. John Sutton and Scott McGleish should continue to lead the attack.

Former Northampton striker Scott McGleish has six
goals for Wycombe this season.

FORM
The Dons saw their run of nine successive wins brought to an end with defeat at home to Stockport last weekend but remain the team to beat in League Two. Last Saturday was the first time a team has stopped Paul Ince's side from scoring this season. In fact, only West Brom in the Championship have scored more than the Dons' 26. They are three points clear at the top of League Two.

Wycombe currently sit ninth in the table, seven points behind their opponents and just outside the play-off spots. They picked up a point at second-placed Chester last weekend with a 2-2 draw, but their home form has been their strong point this term.

Paul Lambert's Chairboys have won four of their last five at Adams Park and could climb as high as fourth with a win.

LAST TIME OUT
Wycombe Wanderers 0 MK Dons 2 - Saturday 28 April 2007

The Dons travelled to Adams Park last season needing a win and a defeat for Swindon at Bristol Rovers to keep their automatic promotion hopes alive.

Wycombe striker Jermaine Easter was sent off in the first half for an elbow on Dean Lewington but the Dons were unable to break down the home side until the very end of the game.

Nine-man MK Dons heroically hung on for a point to stay top of League Two after a heated Bucks derby at Wycombe.

The Dons played the final 31 minutes two men short after first captain Keith Andrews and then winger Lloyd Dyer were given their marching orders in a crazy three-minute spell in the second half.

Colin Cameron's third goal of the season for the Dons on the stroke of half-time had cancelled out Matt Bloomfield's opener to leave the game finely poised as the second period got started.

But things started to go pear-shaped for Paul Ince's visitors when Andrews was sent-off for apparently handling a goal-bound shot from Sergio Torres.

Dons 'keeper Willy Gueret kept his side on par by blocking John Sutton's penalty but their mountain to climb became mission impossible when Dyer scythed down Chairboys full-back Tom Williams moments later.

Dyer hit the showers and the Dons were left staring down the barrel.

But with a spirit their manager showed so many times in his illustrious career, the depleted Dons, led by the immense defending of Sean O'Hanlon and Danny Swailes, refused to be broken and repelled wave after wave of Wycombe attacks to claim a famous point.

There seemed little of the notorious derby fever about the game from the start, both teams making one change as Cameron came in for the suspended Navarro and Will Antwi likewise for David McCracken.

The Dons started the game the stronger, forcing the home side back early-on with some well-constructed attacking play and Andrews conducting things. With one swift move down the left, Leon Knight's cross was headed back by Mark Wright into the path of Wilbraham, whose volley from 16 yards deflected to safety off Antwi.

Swailes headed just wide from a dangerous Dean Lewington cross with the Dons looking like league-leaders and it took Wycombe until the half-hour mark to create a chance of note.

Scott McGleish finally managed to shake off the shackles of O'Hanlon and looked in a good position to shoot in the box, but Drissa Diallo slammed the door shut with a timely block.

It instilled some belief in Paul Lambert's side as Torres and Martin Bullock came close to opening the Dons up with a neat one-two and they kept the pressure up with a couple of set-pieces

But there was nothing fancy about the way they opened the scoring, apart from Bloomfield's excellent run and finish.

Goalkeeper Frank Fielding boomed a clearance into the Dons half and when Sutton just beat Swailes to the header, Bloomfield was bursting through midfield to latch onto it.

His touch was assured as he raced into the box, and his finish was true - tucking the ball, right-footed, inside the far post as Gueret advanced.

The Dons needed something to take into the break with them, and Cameron provided it two minutes into first-half stoppage time, with more than a little thanks to Dyer.

From Wycombe's own corner, the Dons broke down the left and Dyer left blue shirts trailing as he raced over halfway and towards the Wycombe box, Cameron busting a gut to assist him.

Bullock did well to force Dyer wide but as the winger turned back to cross, Cameron was all alone in the centre and had time to take a touch before lifting over Fielding from close-range.

The familiar baby-rocking celebration was a nice touch to mark the birth of Cameron's daughter on Tuesday, and a shot in the arm for the masses of vocal travelling support.

The second-half was all set to be a cracker and when Wilbraham volleyed wide two minutes in it seemed an end-to-end 45 minutes would ensue.

But it never materialised as the match turned on its head in three minutes.

Russell Martin's corner from the right was only cleared as far as Torres and, well-struck though his shot was, the ball cannoned off Andrews to safety.

Despite massive protests from the Dons around him, referee Keith Stroud pointed to the spot and reached for the red card.

With the home support ready to celebrate a double whammy, Gueret silenced them, plunging low to his left to deny Sutton.

The resulting corner was cleared but as Dyer tried to win the ball back and take the Dons forward, he was over-zealous in his tackle on Williams, whose reaction suggested it hadn't been the best tackle.

Dyer walked to the Dons' disbelief and with him went any chances of the Dons winning the game.

Gareth Edds came on for Knight as Ince switched to a 4-4-0 formation, but Wycombe were licking their lips at the thought of a two-man advantage.

The stall was set out, and it became a case of whether Wycombe could break the Dons down.

Wave after wave of blue shirts poured forward as the Dons ran themselves into the ground to block shots, head away crosses and keep themselves level.

Charged with the impossible task of holding the ball up as long as possible, Wilbraham was incredible. Time and again he turned Wycombe defenders around, held the ball in their half and won free-kicks when outnumbered to give his defenders whatever break he could.

But while the attacks kept coming, Wycombe were unable to carve out a chance as the Dons refused to let themselves be opened up. Balls were put into the box but time after time O'Hanlon, Swailes or Diallo rose highest to thump them back from whence they came.

Gueret was called into action again on 70 minutes when another Martin cross from the right was met by McGleish in the centre, but the Frenchman was sharp as a tack to tip his header round the post.

Wycombe's frustration at the Dons' refusal to roll over became apparent as Antwi was booked for a retaliation after a challenge from Wilbraham and their need became more and more desperate.

With every minute that passed and every block, tackle or clearance that was made, the relentless noise from the Dons supporters grew and the belief within the team swelled.

McGleish headed another deep cross well over before Bloomfield tried a different approach, slaloming his way into the box from the left before O'Hanlon threw himself in the way of his shot.

The noise grew louder still as the Dons fans rose to their feet for their battling side and the unthinkable flashed before their eyes when Wilbraham spun Antwi to push on into the Wycombe box.

Had he not run his socks off up to that point, Wilbraham may have had the legs to get a decent shot in, but the best he could do was pull the ball across the box to nobody, turn, and get ready to defend the next attack.

But despite throwing bodies forward at the death, Wycombe were unable to pierce the impenetrable Dons backline.

Dons fans might have taken a point when Andrews was dismissed. When Dyer went as well they might have hoped to keep it respectable.

What they got was a brave, spirited, determined performance from a team that have shown they have the grit as well as the quality to succeed.

MATHIAS - POINT FEELS LIKE A WIN
Mon 05 Nov 2007

http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3421997,00.jpg

Assistant manager Ray Mathias admitted the point earned at Wycombe felt like a win after the nine-man Dons incredibly held out at Adams Park.

Paul Ince's league-leaders looked destined to suffer a second successive defeat when both Keith Andrews and Lloyd Dyer were sent off in three crazy second-half minutes against their Buckinghamshire rivals.

But spurred by the noise generated by a magnificent travelling MK Army, Ince's men proved they have the stomach for a fight this season by holding the Chairboys at bay for half an hour while two men light.

Even after the penalty which resulted in Andrews' sending off was given, goalkeeper Willy Gueret saved John Sutton's spot-kick as the Dons simply refused to buckle.

Speaking after the game, Mathias said: "It's disappointing enough going down to 10 but when you go down to nine I can assure you there is a bit of thinking to be done.

"There was no thought for winning the game with nine men against 11 so we set out our two blocks of four and it worked.

"A point in that situation is like a win.

"You work the back four and you put sessions on in training at times where you set up two blocks of four and they know what they have to do.

"We played Alby on the left and he did a magnificent job against Martin Bullock who is an outstanding player on his day.

"Credit to all of the players for keeping a clean sheet when down to nine men.

"We started off very bright and it looked as though we might run away with the game but we just needed a goal.

"It didn't happen but credit to players for keeping at it and they got the equaliser before half-time.

"I thought we took command again in the second half but certain things have happened to change the course of a game."

Mathias, who also indicated an intention to appeal against Andrews' red for handling on the line, saved praise for the vociferous Dons support, who seemed to grow louder and louder to make up for their teams numerical disadvantage.

Mathias added: "Throughout the game there was only one set of fans for me and that was MK Dons fans.

"The noise they made and the encouragement they gave the players was different class."

SWAILES IN TEAM OF THE WEEK

Dons defender Danny Swailes has been named in the League Two Team of the Week for the second time this season.

Swailes was outstanding in a Dons rearguard at Wycombe on Saturday, where Paul Ince's men defended superbly with nine men for 30 minutes to earn a valuable point.

The point helped the Dons stay top of League Two and they go into Tuesday night's game against Grimsby at stadiummk looking to strengthen their position.

Swailes is joined in the Team of the Week by Hereford midfielder Toumani Diagouraga, Peterborough's Dean Keates and Mansfield's hat-trick hero against Macclesfield Simon Brown.

DYER NAMED PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Mon 05 Nov 2007

http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3414854,00.jpg

Dons midfielder Lloyd Dyer has been named the League 2 Powerade Player of the Month for October.

The Birmingham-born winger was confirmed as the latest winner of the coveted award on Monday evening after playing a key-role in the Dons' superb start to the season.

Dyer, 25, has been among the Dons' star performers in recent weeks while Paul Ince's men have maintained their position at the League Two summit for the entire month.

Dyer completes an October Dons double, after Ince was named Coca-Cola League 2 Manager of the Month last week.

Also short-listed for the October award were Liam Hatch of Barnet, Adam Rooney of Chesterfield (on loan from Stoke City) and Chester City's Richie Partridge.

Chris Kamara, chairman of the Powerade Player of the Month Awards panel, said: "One of Lloyd Dyer's great strengths is his energy; he's able to motor up and down the left side all day and provides terrific service to his strikers. He's also added goals to his game this month and his excellent all round form is one of the main reasons why MK Dons remain the team to catch at the top of League 2."

Ryan Shawcross of Stoke City (on loan from Manchester United) won the award in the Championship and Kris Commons of Nottingham Forest landed the League 1 accolade.

The Powerade Awards panel, chaired by Sky Sports pundit and Coca-Cola Ambassador Chris Kamara, made the decision. The panel also includes Paul Hetherington, Chairman of the Football Writers' Association, Malcolm Clarke, Chairman of the Football Supporters' Federation and Tim Ellerton, Sponsorship Manager, Coca-Cola Great Britain.

marto.1986 14-11-2007 13:19

Milton Keynes Dons Football Club can this morning confirm that it has rejected an approach from Derby County to speak to Paul Ince about the vacant managerial position at Pride Park.

Paul and the team have made an excellent start to the season in League 2, a fact that has not gone unnoticed by clubs in higher divisions.

However, it was the opinion of the board that the club's best interests would not be served by granting permission for an approach - a decision vindicated by Paul's desire to remain at stadiummk.

With reference to continual speculation regarding Paul's future, the club would like to reiterate both Paul's ambition to achieve success in Milton Keynes and the club's determination to retain his services.

Looking forward, preparations continue for the historic visit of Her Majesty the Queen on Thursday, an event we are delighted to say that Paul will play a major part in.

Confirmed!

QUEEN OPENS STADIUMMK
Thu 29 Nov 2007

http://www.mkdons.premiumtv.co.uk/ja...3482583,00.jpg

stadiummk swelled with national pride on Thursday as Her Majesty the Queen officially opened the home of the Milton Keynes Dons.

The stadium was the centre piece of the Queen's historic visit to the new city in the year of its 40th birthday.

Her Majesty arrived at the stadium just before midday and was greeted by Chairman Pete Winkelman before being introduced to some of the key contributors to the stadium's development.

Manager Paul Ince then introduced Her Majesty to a number of the Dons first team squad before the Royal Party viewed an exhibition from the Milton Keynes Council for Voluntary Organisations in the Grand Ballroom.

After further introductions to key members of staff, the Queen and the Duke were driven from the front of the stadium round and into the lower bowl where a huge number of Milton Keynes schoolchildren took part in a fantastic dance show.

Her Majesty was then invited by Pete to unveil a plaque to declare the stadium officially opened.

The climax of the event came with the presentation of a red balloon, historically a symbol of Milton Keynes, by Ria Ince, daughter of Dons manager Paul, which the Queen released into the Milton Keynes sky on a beautiful November afternoon.
Pete said: "I would like to thank everyone involved in the event - organisers, performers and spectators - for making this one of the proudest moments of my life, which has now become a part of the history of our football club."

Ince 'unflustered' by Rams' interest

http://editorial.jpress.co.uk/web/Up...0Paul-Ince.jpg
Paul Ince

By James Chard

MK DONS chairman Pete Winkelman has revealed that Paul Ince was completely "unflustered"by Derby County's interest in making him their next manager.
Derby had an official approach to speak to Ince about their vacant managerial position rejected by the club.

A statement from the club added it was the opinion of the board that the club's best interests would not be served by granting permission for an approach – a decision vindicated by Ince's desire to remain at stadium:mk.

Dons fans have since been able to breath a sigh of relief, with Paul Jewell's appointment at Pride Park yesterday morning, this ruling out any chance of him leaving.

And Winkelman told the Citizen the Guv'nor, who at one time was such an overwhelming favourite for the job that bookmakers stopped taking bets on him, was completely unmoved by the speculation.

"You have to discuss these things and once we'd chatted with Paul we knew we'd come to the right decision.

"He's been completely unfl-ustered by it all, he's taken it all with a pinch of salt and he's probably been more unaffected by it than anyone at the club.

"We're absolutely relieved that it's all over.

"It's all been done in the right way by Derby and ourselves. Everyone acted correctly and now we can concentrate on the league and winning games again."

The Dons have made a blistering start to the season under Ince, storming to the top of the table, and embarking o
n a nine-match winning streak on the way.

And Winkelman concedes, the speculation is something the club will have to get used to, but it is a sign of a club on the up.

He added: "The trouble is if you've got a successful player or a successful manager people want them.

"But I'd rather have it this way as it shows that we're doing something right, and the club is going the right way."

The statement from the club said it expected Ince to be linked with more jobs, but he wants success at the club.

"With reference to continual speculation regarding Paul's future, the club would like to reiterate both Paul's ambition to achieve success in
Milton Keynes and the club's determination to retain his services.

"Looking forward, preparations continue for the historic visit of Her Majesty the Queen on Thursday, an event we are delighted to say that Paul will play a major part in."

Byе, Bye County! :hii:

Dons midfielder Gareth Edds went under the knife last week as specialist consultant Mr Panos Thomas worked his magic on an ankle problem all too familiar to Dons head physio Simon Crampton.

With Eddsy now on the road to recovery, Simon talks us through the problem the Dons man has had and the surgery to put it right...

Eddsy went in for his operation on his left ankle last Friday morning and it went very well indeed.

He had whats known as Haglund's deformity coupled with os trigonum syndorme and osteophyte formation (bone spurs ) in the ankle so there were a number of problems affecting his performance.

Haglund's deformity is a bony enlargement on the calacaneous (heel bone) which causes irritation of the Achilles tendon and bursa (fluid filled sack between the tendon and bone).

An os trigonum is a small extra bone that is sometimes found in the ankle. In the case of elite athletes, this bone impinges on the soft tissues and can cause a lot of pain. Although os triganum is a quite rare, it's not the first time we've come across it, Aaron Wilbraham had the same problem last season and underwent a similar operation. It's only present in 10 per cent of the population so we're a bit unlucky to have had two cases of it in less than a year.

Osteophytes are bony projections that form along joints and are the body's attempt to offload the pressures transmitted through that joint. They are not unheard of in footballers and again can cause impingement of the soft tissues.

Collectively, these problems were causing Eddsy a lot of pain, obviously reducing the movement of his ankle and preventing him performing to his maximum. He hasn't been able to train as hard as he normally does and, although he was able to carry on playing with injections, an operation was inevitable.

MK Dons head physiotherapist Simon Crampton.

He had keyhole surgery in London where Mr Thomas detached half of the Achilles tendon off the heel bone to give him access to the areas that needed treating. Once the heel had been cleaned of the deformity and the os triganum and osteophytes had been removed, the Achilles was re-attached.

Eddsy's looking at three to four months out, the recovery period being quite long because the Achilles has to heal back onto the bone. He'll be in a cast for about six weeks, then into a special air-cast for another three. Once he's out of that we can step his rehab up to running then, once he's strengthened sufficiently, onto football specific rehab.

Gareth is a great pro and now that he's had the operation I'm sure he'll be working hard on his rehab every day to make sure that he now not only gets back playing quickly, but is stronger for it.

It was another profitable week for MK Dons loanees as some young members of Paul Ince's squad continue to gain valuable first team experience.

In the Blue Square Premier, defender Kieran Murphy and winger Mustapha Carayol were both in the starting line-up as Crawley Town drew at York City.

Murphy played the whole game for Steve Evans' side while Carayol was replaced late on Onome Sodje's goal cancelled out John-Paul Pittman's opener to deny Crawley a win.

The Red Devils currently sit 14th in the table and will host Grays Athletic on Saturday.

One tier down in the Blue Square South, striker John Hastings played 90 minutes in Maidenhead United's 3-1 home win over Dorchester, strike partner Manny Williams bagging a hat-trick for Johnson Hippolyte's men.

It was an important win for the Magpies to distance themselves from the sides in the drop zone below them and they will be looking to leave them further behind when they travel to Bath City on Saturday.

In the Isthmian Premier Division, defenders Sam Page and Sam Collins both played 90 minutes in Hendon's 4-0 demolition of Folkestone Invicta.

The Greens host Billericay Town on Saturday.
